ASI Certified Sheep Shearing School
- Shepherd’s Cross has been raising and shearing sheep since the early 1990’s
- American Sheep Industry Certified Shearing School - one of only a handful of such classes in the U.S.
- Three Day class - required to meet ASI certification requirements
- Class Participants learn:
- How to shear a sheep effectively, safely and following Animal Welfare Approved guidelines
- Proper handling and maintenance of shearing equipment
- Low Stress sheep handling techniques
- Skirting and grading a fleece
- Basic wool processing
- Each student will have the opportunity to shear sheep, with personal guidance and instruction
- Each Participant will receive a "goody bag" with a Shearing Manual from A.S.I., A shearing DVD from A.S.I., references for purchase of quality equipment and upon successful completion of the class an A.S.I. Sheep Shearing Certificate
- Our Instructors are American Sheep Industry Certified:
- Israel Vasek - Israel is a professional sheep shearer, and shears approximately 10,000 sheep per year. He learned to shear with his father, and is carrying on the family tradition. Israel is not only a quality shearer, but he is conscientious, and handles the sheep respectfully. He is a patient, hands on instructor.
- Dr. Diane Dickinson - Dr. D is a licensed veterinarian, and agriculturalist, specializing in small ruminants. Her and her husband own and operate Shepherd's Cross, a working sheep farm with a commercial flock of several hundred. She teaches animal handling, American Sheep Industry guidelines, wool grading and wool processing.
- Annual Class is held mid April
- April 21, 22 & 23 of 2022 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday)
- Full day class from 8:30 - 3:30
- Bring a Sack Lunch; beverages are provided
- Total Class Fee: $245.00
- 1 or 2 Day Refresher Course for previous graduates of our 3 day class $85 per day
