Shepherd’s Cross Sheep
  • The sheep raised at the farm are a landrace breed developed right here over the course of three decades. We call them Shepherd’s Cross sheep. They are a combination sheep producing quality meat and wool.  Developed by an agriculturalist and licensed veterinarian, Dr. Diane Dickinson.  Her and her husband Peter Dickinson own and operate this family farm.  The flock numbers a few hundred.
  • This flock has been selected with the following criteria in mind:
    • The ability to withstand the weather extremes of Oklahoma – severe drought to flooding wet; 120 degrees F to minus 30 degrees F; fluctuations of fifty degrees within twelve hours
    • The ability to produce healthy seed stock
    • The ability to be pasture birthed with minimal assistance
    • Strong newborn lamb vigor
    • The ability to produce quality meat at a reasonable weight gain on grass pasture
    • Strong survivability on pasture and hay with minimal feed supplementation
    • Good motherability
    • Lambing rate of 180% - pasture bred, born & raised
    • High Conception Rate
    • Hardy
    • Hybrid vigor
    • Durability
    • Quality wool production  in a multitude of colors.  Colors include white, browns, blacks, greys, golden, spotted and red.  Wool type is similar to Navajo Churro.  These color genetics go back to Jacob's flock in the Bible.
    • Good milking ability
    • Parasite resistance
    • Can survive Mountain terrain
    • Sure footedness
    • Horned and polled
  • Our sheep are:
  • Pasture born and raised -  right here - that's local
