​Carding - Hand Carders & Drum Carder
with Dana Shouse
Learn how to prepare fibers for spinning or felting, using hand carders and a drum carder.  Take your finished rolags and batts home with you.   Dana is especially gifted at carding and prepares most of the batts for the farm store. 
We will be working with Oklahoma grown wool - from right here on the farm.  Our wool is Animal Welfare Approved and pasture born and raised; no chemicals.
All materials for class are provided.
If you have hand carders or a drum carder, you may bring them to use.

Mug Rug Knitting
 with Dana Shouse
Learn how to knit a mug rug in this introductory level knitting class. Bring bulky yarn and big knitting needles or borrow a pair of our needles. Make and take home a completed mug rug.

Beginner Rigid Heddle Weaving - Mug Rugs

Learn how to warp and weave on a rigid heddle loom.  
Take up to 4 finished mug rugs home with you.
We will be working with Oklahoma grown wool yarn- from right here on the farm.  Our wool is Animal Welfare Approved, and pasture born and raised, no chemicals.
All materials for class are provided.
If you have a rigid heddle loom, you may bring it to use.

Drop Spindling
with Dr. Diane Dickinson 
Learn how to spin on a drop spindle.
This is a beginner or refresher class.
Take your first homespun yarn home  
We will be working with Oklahoma grown wool - from right here on the farm.  Our wool is Animal Welfare Approved and pasture born and raised: no chemicals.
All materials for class are provided.
Students may bring your own drop spindle, borrow one of ours, or purchase a take home kit.
Saturday August 22 from 11:00 - 11:30 or 2:00-2:30

 Floor Loom Weaving
with Dr. Diane Dickinson
 Each participant will make & take home a scarf or table runner, and a trivet. Students will learn how to warp the loom and weave their projects
A three-day class; from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

     Needle Felting a Landscape Portrait

Needle Felt a landscape of your favorite things - flowers, trees, water, sky or whatever you can imagine.  Take your finished portrait home with you.

Intro to Triangle Shawl Knitting

Have you ever wanted to make a triangle shawl but didn't know where to start? What even is a garter tab cast-on? Why would I want to do that? Which bind-off should I use? We'll answer all these questions and more in this class as we work a mini, doll-sized garter triangle shawl. Bring a US 8 circular needle (16" or longer). Yarn will be provided.

Our Instructors
​Dana Shouse has been a lifelong maker with fiber. Working at Shepherd’s Cross for almost 10 years now, she spends most of her time processing fiber. She washes, dyes, and picks and cards wool, and has even shorn sheep in the past. Then she knits, crochets, weaves and felts the fiber she’s processed. In years past she did needlepoint, cross stitch and Hardanger embroidery. After retiring from her day job, she went back to school and got her Bachelor of Fine Arts. She enjoys making things by hand and feels a calling to keep traditional craft work alive.
Heather Strunk majored in Fibers at Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a concentration in weaving. She enjoys working with a variety of loom types; including rigid heddle, inkle and floor looms. Between weaving projects Heather enjoys knitting as well. Though yarn is her first love, family is the most important thing to Heather. She spends most of her time as a stay at home mom and enjoying various activities with her daughter and loving husband, Jeremy.

Dr. Diane Dickinson began Shepherd's Cross, a family farm, with her husband in 1991.  The farm is primarily a working sheep farm, but is also home to cattle, donkeys, horses, and alpacas.  Dr. D., as she is affectionately known, has been working in the fiber arts since her grandmother taught her as a young girl.  For several decades she has been teaching fiber arts locally and internationally.  She establishes wool mills in impoverished 3rd world villages.  Her love for sheep is equaled by her love for teaching the fiber art forms, including spinning and weaving.  Her passion is to teach homesteaders, and beginners, basic fiber art skills.  
​Karen Capehart has become a renowned needle felting artisan over the past two decades.  She expresses her love for nature in painting with wool fiber - portraits, landscapes and abstract art.  Her artwork can be found in many local galleries, and at Shepherd's Cross Farm Store.  She is a patient and encouraging teacher, and a multi-talented artist.

Gina Meyer is an avid fiber artist. She loves to knit, spin, and weave and dabbles in many other fiber crafts. Socks are her favorite thing to knit, followed by sweaters and shawls. Gina loves a fun challenge and has even completed knitting 6 pairs of socks on one long circular needle at the same time! She has 16 years of knitting experience and has worked at Shepherd's Cross for almost 5 years.
